EPL side Chelsea FC set a new record for the most wins in a single EPL season with 30 wins. The point haul of 93 points is the second highest ever coming after the single highest point haul of 95 points garnered by the same club in the 2004-2005 season. The new record was set after the champions beat Sunderland 5-1 this evening to earn their 30th victory of the 2016/2017 campaign.
Chelsea FC had fallen behind to a Javier Manquillo goal, but goals from Willian, Eden Hazard, Pedro and a Michy Batshuayi brace ensured the champions got maximum points to ensure that Antonio Conte’s men are confirmed as Premier League champions with a win record to match. Chelsea’s longest serving captain – John Terry also represented Chelsea in his 717th and final appearance at Stamford Bridge.
John Terry led the Blues out to a guard of honor from Sunderland players and received a rousing applause from the home supporters when he asked to be substituted in the 26th minute. Large commemorative banners were also flown around the stadium to celebrate the Captain. Leader. Legend. with a vast tribute in the Shed End in tribute to the 36-year-old prior to kickoff.
